The Team

Darlene Collins – Owner, Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer

My love for fitness began about 10 years ago when I finally made the decision that it was time to stop talking about it and actually do something about it! It was then that I joined a gym and began eating healthy. It didn’t take long to notice changes in my energy, cardiovascular endurance, strength, inches and weight loss. I felt amazing!!! So amazing that I decided I would love to be a personal trainer and help people with their fitness goals. In 2010 I became a certified a personal trainer at a local gym and in 2011 I set another goal, which was to take part in the NSBBA competition. It was a great experience and I am happy that I reached another goal. I made the decision to leave the gym in 2012 and start providing fitness classes and personal training, in New Waterford, on my own under the business name “Get Fit with Darlene Rankin”. The classes and training was going so well that I took my classes to Reserve Mines and Sydney.

My passion is healthy living, which involves both proper nutrition and exercising. Nutrition and exercise go hand in hand, you will not get good results if you do one without the other.

Fit for Life will provide all members with a variety of classes and workouts! Providing variety will prevent members from getting bored with the same routine and will prevent your body from plateauing.

The Team’s focus is healthy living and customer service! We are looking forward to working with all of the members at Fit for Life.

Tracy Hutchison – Front Desk

Tracy worked several years in the banking industry and in 2010 made the decision to change careers. The last position that Tracy held was in Human Resources, which she loved! Tracy gets the importance of providing good customer service and is committed to doing what she can to make each members day at the club a great one! "I'm the type of person who needs my job to be something I can feel passionate about. I want to feel good walking into work each day. Something that I know is helping others feel good too. Fit for Life is that place"

Tracy loves that this is a women's health and fitness club. " I began running because I was so intimidated by the gym. I then joined Darlene's bootcamp in 2013 and felt instantly welcomed. It was like walking into a group of old friends catching up, all while sweating and working out. She gives you the environment where you feel comfortable and want to come back. You actually look forward to it".

You will feel at ease when you enter the facility and are greeted by Tracy's warm smile and desire to help in any way she can.

Amanda Fraser – Yoga Instructor

Amanda began practicing yoga in 2011 to help ease hip pain and help her sleep. The numerous benefits of yoga quickly became evident as she started practicing more frequently. In 2014 she attended a week long summer yoga conference and upon completion, enrolled in a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program! After graduating in May 2015, she began teaching outdoor classes in her community and found this added a new element to practicing yoga. You breathe deeper, relax faster, and work harder when connected with the earth. You will find her practicing outside whenever she can.

Amanda continues to deepen her practice and teaching skills by attending various training sessions and workshops to excite and inspire our members. Most recently, she became certified in PiYO LIVE, a Beachbody® certified program that combines Yoga and Pilates in a high intensity, low impact workout. She loves watching people discover yoga, and hearing from the ladies at Fit for Life about how yoga is changing their bodies and their minds. "We are building a strong yoga community and it's so empowering. Amanda is a certified Yoga and PiYO Live instructor, teaching Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga, and PiYO at Fit for Life.

Laura Bowdridge Yoga Instructor

Laura’s Yoga journey began in 2010 when she took up a hot yoga practice and quickly began to notice a change in her body and mind. She liked the idea that she could burn a ton of calories and increase her physical strength during a one hour class, as well as gain mental clarity and awareness!

She continued to practice throughout her pregnancy in 2011 as well as postpartum mom and baby sessions after the birth of her son in 2012. It was here that she found the safe space and strong community she needed to grow her practice on a different level.

In 2013 she enrolled in a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Halifax Yoga where she had practiced and became part of an amazing community. Inspired by the support and growth offered to her, she began to teach all levels and styles of classes once becoming certified in Spring 2014 as an RYT 200. Teaching yoga at Halifax Yoga, in corporate environments, schools, volunteering in the community and even in correctional facility's she quickly realized how important this work was and what her new career path would be.

She immediately (and currently still is) enrolled in the next 300hours of training offered at Halifax Yoga to become a 500hr Advanced Yoga Teacher. She has received many certifications throughout training, including Prenatal/Postpartum, Yoga for kids and teens, Restorative Yoga, also has completed the art of assisting workshop and taken master classes and received feedback and mentoring with some of the best yoga instructors on the east coast!

Charlotte Poirier- Fitness Instructor

Charlotte has always had an interest in health and fitness. In 2014, Charlotte completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology but realized that this wasn’t her true passion. She then enrolled into a two year Natural Nutrition program to become a Registered Holistic Nutritionist which she is now completing. “I have always enjoyed eating a healthy diet because I realize the importance of nourishing our bodies with natural, good quality and whole foods”. Although she has always been active, through her 17 years of dance, she has recently discovered just how important a balanced lifestyle between nutrition and exercise really is. She is currently a Certified Group Fitness Specialist through the International Sports Science Association.

When Charlotte read about the grand opening of Fit for Life she thought to herself, “I need to be a part of this!" She immediately got in contact with Darlene and began working at the gym in January. There was something about a group of motivational and inspirational women looking to better themselves that she could not resist. Charlotte loves coming to work each day knowing that she helping women become better and healthier versions of who they are. “They inspire me to be a better person”, not only the members but the staff as well.
